ABOUT US
The Pickering Retired Firefighters Association (PRFA) was founded in 2013 as an organization whose membership is open to all active retired firefighters and their spouse/partner from the Pickering Fire Services Department (PFSD). It also includes Chiefs, Deputies and Administrative staff including their spouse/partner, of the PFSD, who have retired. It also includes, as members, those that have resigned or transferred from the PFSD including their spouse/partner. As well, membership is open to any surviving spouse/partner of any PFSD member who died while employed by the PFSD. Membership is also open to former part-time firefighters who once were part of the Department. Membership is also open to all active firefighters with 20 years of service or more including their spouse/partner.
Our yearly membership fee is $15. Spouses/partners membership is free.
The goals of the PRFA is to keep its members in touch with each other and with the PFSD, and to undertake events, as appropriate, for the enrichment of active retirees and others.
Although PRFA deals with many issues relevant to PFSD active retirees, the major focus is the planning and offering of social activities that facilitate the gathering and interaction of its members. These activities include luncheons with speakers or entertainment, outings to local theatre productions, coffee chats, sporting events, tours of interesting sites in the Durham region etc.
Our goals are simple:
- Provide social gatherings and outings for our members
- Give its members a sense of cohesion and support
- Raise our profile in the fire service and community
- Provide communication to and between our members
